Cargo bikes

Have you ever wanted to ride your bike to the grocery store and bring home a couple solid bags of food? Or been hanging around with a friend who doesn't have a bike and wished you had another seat?

If the answer is yes, you should check out a cargo bike: A heavy duty bike that's made to carry weight. You can try carrying stuff on your standard bike rack but after you take on too much weight, the bike's bound to snap. This happened to me last weekend when I tried to give a 210 pound gorilla (named Chris) a ride. See the potato chipped wheel and cracked bike rack below.

So if you're gonna carry weight, get a cargo bike. My friend Ed pointed me to a couple companies that carry these beefy machines. (I haven't tested either.) One's called Yuba, and the bike's named the Mundo. It costs $1000-$2200 and allows you to carry some 440 lbs.
